New blood pressure tables
The National High Blood Pressure Coordinating Committee (NHLBI) has issued a new report and guidelines for blood pressure in children. Note that the first line of intervention is lifestyle changephysical activity, healthy eating, and weight management. You can download the tables from the NHLBI site (www.nhlbi.nih.gov) . The full report will be posted on the website later this summer.

Get Connected Toolkit for Health Promotion and Consumer Education
The free kit is for healthcare providers and health educators to help build a Health Promotion Program, Staff and Consumer Education, and enable leaders to obtain video, brochures, and professional resources. Linking Older Adults with Medication, Alcohol, and Mental Health Resources by calling SAMHSA’s National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information at 1-800-729-6686 or e-mail info@health.org.

The information will assist health professionals, including parish nurses, to help identify and serve older adults who may have an emotional problem or a problem with prescription medications, alcohol, or drugs. The National Council on the Aging has joined with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and the Administration on Aging of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to provide a range of tools and skills to do just that.
